Week 4 - Dance

 This term the children are learning about the elements of dance.  Today they learnt low, high, wide, angle, twisted, curved. Look at some freeze frame photos of them in these elements.

Week 4 - Wind Power

One of the reading groups read the book Wind Power which was all about wind turbines.  Together we made a wind turbine and then labeled it. Here are some very proud children.

Week 3 - The Great Migration

 During our inquiry the children learnt about the Great Migration and Silver Group also read a story about Mariri, the Flying Man.  They started making a double hulled waka and then everyone wanted to join in. Here are the finished waka.

Week 3 - Minature Trees and Winter Writing Publishing

The children have worked really hard over the past couple of weeks learning how to write paragraphs.  They wrote 2 paragraphs about Winter.  The first was how they felt about Winter.  The second paragraph they found some facts about Winter.  They then worked independently to publish their Winter writing onto a google slide.  Here are some examples...

Alongside of this the children made a sculpture of a Winter tree.  The writing was publish and then made into little books.  These are the final Winter trees and writing that are displayed in the library.

Week 2 - Planter Boxes

 Outside of Room 9 and 10 there are some planter boxes.  Mr Davis made some for Room 11 and on Friday the children worked cooperatively to put in the dirt and plant some pansies in our planter boxes.  We look forward to watching them flower and brighten our school.

Week 2 - Reading Groups are go...

Room 11 are back to the normal routines again and we have 4 reading groups.  Each group focuses on book.  The Gold group read the book Undersea Gardens.  Click on this link if you want to read it at home.

Undersea Gardens 

The book was all about seaweed so on Thursday I brought some seaweed in for them to try. The photos capture exactly how they feel about seaweed.

Week 1 - Memory Boxes

 This week the children were learning how to write lines in a poem called My Memory Box.  We watched this clip for motivation.

The Magic Box

I taught the children that we include adjectives to describe the verbs and nouns.  We took a boring sentence.  "In my memory box I will put a swim at the pool" and brainstormed adjectives to describe the words swim and pool.  The children then created their own sentences.

Then the children wrote their own memory box sentences.  The created a memory box and put the sentences inside.  Here are the finished memory boxes...

Week 1 - Phoenix Comes to Room 11 and Creative Block Designs

 Welcome back to Room 11 for Term 3.  Over the holidays we got a new puppy and he is so little he had to come to school for a couple of days. Welcome to Phoenix...  Room 11 were so wonderful with him and he hung out with me.  He even went to sleep on my chair while we were on the mat...

Kai got really creative on Friday afternoon and created a throne.  

Then Zac joined and they decided to change the throne to a toilet.  This is the first toilet created from blocks in Room 11 and now we know how the name came about... :)

 The senior classes had made some rockets for their inquiry and we got to go out and watch.  It was amazing to watch them shoot into the sky.

 This week the children made and alien.  They then wrote a descriptive piece about an alien.
