Week 4: Dancing Raisins Experiment

Can raisins dance?
In Room 11 today we did a fun experiment.  If you would like to do this experiment at home you can click on the links below.  When we did the experiment at school we used raisins with the baking soda and vinegar

The glass on the left is before we put the vinegar in.  The one on the right is after we put the vinegar in.  Can you see all the bubbles?

The kids are getting excited cause things are starting to happen...

Now we are super excited as the raisins started to dance...

Week 1: Who has the heaviest bag?

Today in Maths the children had to solve the problem...

Who has the heaviest bag in Room 11?

First they got into groups and put their bags in order.  There was so much discussion about how they could do this.  Then lots of comparing bags and debating about whose was the heaviest. Once they were in order they swapped groups and had to check the other groups bags were in order as well.  Again lots of discussion, collaboration, debating and finally success.
Then the children took their bags and ordered them in a bigger group.  After that all the boys ordered their bags and the girls ordered their bags.  Wow there was so much maths happening and so many fantastic discussions.  Finally the girls brought their bags and put them in the correct order with the boys.  Here we are in order.  The left side is the lightest bag to the right side with the heaviest bag.

So who had the heaviest bag in Room 11 today?  Corey
